We're creating a spacefaring civilization . . . Oregon L5 Society, chapter of the National Space Society, works to bring about the day when humans will live in thriving communities beyond Earth. Oregon L5, founded in 1978, educates the public about space, has trained Young Astronauts and Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS), conducts space-related research, keeps members informed about space issues, and serves as a gathering place for space enthusiasts. Our current projects include public outreach, lunar and Martian photo data analysis, space policy activism, research concerning lava tube caves on the Moon and Mars, building models of possible space bases and habitats, classroom visits to local schools, and participation in public and professional conferences on space research and development. We are now also working with NASA CoLab and NSS to create a visionary presence in the online virtual world, Second Life. Leading organizations in science education, industry, and government support our chapter work, including the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI), Oregon Science Teachers Association (OSTA), Boeing Aerospace, Rockwell, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), as well as National Space Society (NSS). But the support we really need is yours! It is through active and involved members that we've accomplished all that we have. Everything that people do here on Earth will need doing out in space: that means you can contribute whatever skills you may have - it's not all rocket science! We also welcome those who wish to show their support by simply joining. Your membership helps us. Take charge of the space program by joining citizens from all walks of life who show their support. Join Oregon L5!
